JOB SCOPE
Monitor and analyse the impact of tourism on Namibia’s economy and provide timely insights and guidance. Track and evaluate market trends (local, regional, and international) to support strategic decision-making. Manage the collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of tourism-related data. Develop user-centric research outputs and promote data-driven decision-making within the tourism sector.
Main responsibilities & performance areas
Tourism Research Design and Analysis: Access and evaluate tourism data sources globally and locally. Conduct economic forecasting specific to tourism industry trends. Design and develop research projects aligned with strategic objectives. Manage and coordinate thematic tourism research initiatives. Analyse data to extract meaningful industry insights. Identify emerging trends and opportunities within the tourism sector. Collaborate with stakeholders to define research requirements. Develop reports and presentations to communicate research findings. Monitor industry developments to inform strategic planning. Ensure research methodologies adhere to best practices and standards.
Tourism Data Monitoring and Reporting: Identify and access key tourism data sources. Validate the accuracy and reliability of data. Analyse datasets to generate actionable insights. Compile comprehensive reports for various audiences. Ensure quality assurance of research outputs. Present findings clearly to stakeholders. Monitor data trends to inform decision-making. Evaluate the effectiveness of research products. Update and maintain data repositories. Recommend improvements to data collection and reporting processes.
Stakeholder Engagement and Research Communication: Build and maintain relationships with data providers and research organizations. Facilitate dissemination of research publications and data to stakeholders. Create clear, impactful communication materials for presenting findings. Organize workshops and consultations to gather feedback and enhance research. Engage stakeholders to understand their data and information needs. Promote awareness of research outcomes and insights. Collaborate with partners to improve data sharing and research efforts.
Tailor communication approaches for diverse audiences. Monitor stakeholder feedback to improve engagement strategies. Support capacity-building initiatives related to research communication.
Administrative Management: Manage daily administrative tasks to ensure departmental efficiency. Support coordination of research activities and projects. Maintain documentation and record-keeping systems. Assist in organizing meetings, workshops, and events. Facilitate communication within the department and with external partners. Monitor and update departmental schedules and deadlines. Contribute to process improvements and administrative innovations. Support efforts to enhance NTB’s research capacity and reputation. Handle routine tasks and special assignments aligned with departmental goals. Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
Key Qualifications and Experience Required:
Postgraduate qualification (above NQF Level 7) in Marketing, Tourism, Hospitality, or a Research discipline.
Key Experience:
At least 5 years of relevant experience in research, statistics, or data analysis.
Special Requirements:
Willingness to travel and work extended hours when required. A full and current driver’s licence for a car.
