What is tourism Levy?
Levy tourism levy is a 2% or 1% charged to the consumer for the use of tourism facilities example Accommodations, currently is bed based.
Funds collected are used by Namibia Tourism Board to promote Namibia as preferred travel and tourism destination.
Who should pay tourism levy?
- Local and International tourists make use of specific tourism services – accommodation establishments except campsite, camping and caravan parks.

Is collection of tourism levy compulsory or voluntary?
In Namibia tourism levy is compulsory for the accommodation facility to collect levy on behalf of NTB and pay it over to the Board at a specific time as stated on NTB ACT of 2000
How do you calculate Levy?
Levy is calculated on the amount charged to your guests, 2 % for the bed and breakfast or bed only and 1% for all inclusive.

When and how is the tourism levy paid?
After fully or conditional Registration letters are issued to accommodation establishments.
Levy must be paid on or before the end of every two months for example:
- January / February should be paid on or before 31 March
- March / April should be paid on or before 31 May
- May / June should be paid on or before 31 July
- July / August should be paid on or before 30 September
- September / October Should be paid on or before 30 November
- November / December should be paid on before 31 January

What happens if you don’t pay on time?
An owner who fails to pay the full amount of the levy by the last day of the calendar month of the levy payment period must pay, in addition to the levy collected, a penalty charge of 5% of the levy amount. The date on which the payment is considered as the date of payment. The 5% is payable on any outstanding amount of the levy in respect of each month or a part of a month during which the outstanding amount remains unpaid.
Example. January levy payable is N$300 and is payable on 31 March but paid on the 3rd July, therefore amount due is = N$300+ 60 (300 x 5% x4 months Apr, may, Jun Jul) =$360
Is necessary to provide statistic to NTB
Statistic is very important for NTB:
- It indicates the performance of the industry in terms of bed occupancy
- It indicated the performance of industry in terms of financial performance
- For decision making purposes because it indicates the nationality where the tourists are coming from

Why are clients not receiving receipts on levy paid?
The levy form and proof of payments are sufficient to proof that the client has paid. You are also entitled to request your statement of account from NTB.
