Levy tourism levy is a 2% or 1% charged to the consumer for the use of tourism facilities example Accommodations, currently is bed based.

Funds collected are used by Namibia Tourism Board to promote Namibia as preferred travel and tourism destination.

  1. Local and International tourists make use of specific tourism services – accommodation establishments except campsite, camping and caravan parks.

Tourism levy is non-taxable

In Namibia tourism levy is compulsory for the accommodation facility to collect levy on behalf of NTB and pay it over to the Board at a specific time as stated on NTB ACT of 2000

Levy is calculated on the amount charged to your guests, 2 % for the bed and breakfast or bed only and 1% for all inclusive.

First deduct commission from amount paid before calculation of levy due to NTB

The provider who charges bed and breakfast plus diner or bed and breakfast plus dinner and other activities

After fully or conditional Registration letters are issued to accommodation establishments.

Levy must be paid on or before the end of every two months for example:

  • January / February should be paid on or before 31 March
  • March / April should be paid on or before 31 May
  • May / June should be paid on or before 31 July
  • July / August should be paid on or before 30 September
  • September / October Should be paid on or before 30 November
  • November / December should be paid on before 31 January

All levies should be sent to the e-mail: debtors@namibiatourism.com.na

An owner who fails to pay the full amount of the levy by the last day of the calendar month of the levy payment period must pay, in addition to the levy collected, a penalty charge of 5% of the levy amount. The date on which the payment is considered as the date of payment. The 5% is payable on any outstanding amount of the levy in respect of each month or a part of a month during which the outstanding amount remains unpaid.

Example. January levy payable is N$300 and is payable on 31 March but paid on the 3rd July, therefore amount due is = N$300+ 60 (300 x 5% x4 months Apr, may, Jun Jul) =$360
