The Namibia Tourism Board (NTB), in collaboration with the Namibian Police Force (NAMPOL) and other government partners, conducted a joint Tourism Compliance and Safety Operation across the Erongo Region from 4 to 6 September 2026.
Implemented under the KNOW NTB Campaign message, “Register. Comply. Thrive.”, the operation covered Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, Arandis, Henties Bay and Cape Cross. Activities included roadblocks, patrols, inspections and engagements with tourism operators and visitors.
Following the compliance deadline of 31 August 2026, the campaign has progressed from awareness and education to inspections and appropriate enforcement. Key concerns identified during the operation included unregistered tourism businesses and tourism-related vehicles that did not display the prescribed business particulars. Operators were informed of the applicable requirements, and follow-up inspections will be conducted where necessary.
Tourist safety remained a central focus of the operation. Visitors received safety information and NAMPOL contact details, including approximately 58 international tourists engaged at the Cape Cross Seal Reserve.
NTB commends Chief Inspector Van Dúnem Da Fonsech and all participating NAMPOL members for their contribution to strengthening tourism protection in the region.
The Erongo operation forms part of a broader national rollout. Similar operations will be undertaken in other regions, with particular attention given to identified tourism crime hotspots.
NTB encourages all tourism operators to maintain valid registration, submit levy returns, settle outstanding tourism levies and comply with prescribed operating standards.
