Namibia celebrated a significant milestone with the arrival of Edelweiss Air’s inaugural direct flight from Zurich to Windhoek, marking the introduction of a new non-stop air connection between Switzerland and Namibia. The launch strengthens Namibia’s air connectivity with Europe and reinforces the country’s position as a leading long-haul tourism destination.
The inaugural flight was welcomed at Hosea Kutako International Airport by government officials, tourism stakeholders, and industry partners, highlighting the strong collaboration between the Namibia Tourism Board (NTB), Edelweiss Air, and the tourism industry. The new route is expected to improve accessibility for international travellers, stimulate visitor arrivals from key European source markets, and create additional opportunities for the tourism sector.
To maximise the impact of the new service, NTB Europe, in partnership with Edelweiss Air and Discover Airlines, hosted a series of familiarisation trips for international tour operators, product managers, and journalists, ensuring that Namibia’s diverse tourism experiences are promoted directly within European markets. The launch represents another important step in strengthening Namibia’s international tourism competitiveness and supporting sustainable growth in visitor numbers.
