JOB SCOPE
To provide safe and efficient transportation services for staff and materials, while assisting in the upkeep and basic maintenance of office premises, equipment, and vehicles. The Driver/Maintenance Assistant supports smooth day-to-day operations through dependable driving, routine maintenance, and general support duties.
Main responsibilities & performance areas
Driving Duties: Safely transport staff, visitors, and materials to designated locations as assigned. Ensure the assigned vehicle is clean, roadworthy, and properly fuelled. Always follow traffic laws and organizational transport policies. Maintain accurate vehicle movement logs, mileage records, and fuel usage reports.
Vehicle Maintenance Support: Conduct daily vehicle inspections (oil, water, tire pressure, lights, etc.). Report any faults, damage, or required servicing to the supervisor promptly. Assist in transporting vehicles for service, repairs, and inspections when needed. Keep records of maintenance and service schedules.
General Maintenance Assistance: Support basic facility maintenance tasks such as minor repairs, office rearrangements, or equipment setups. Assist with errands, including delivery and collection of goods, documents, or supplies. Support inventory movements, storage, or lifting of materials as directed.
Safety & Security: Ensure the safety of passengers and items being transported. Secure the vehicle when parked, and parked and follow internal security protocols. Respond to emergencies or breakdowns professionally and promptly.
Administrative & Logistical Support: Assist with logistics during events, field operations, or regulatory site visits. Maintain up-to-date driving license and comply with all roads and transport regulations. Support other departments when not driving or performing maintenance tasks.
Licensing & Compliance: Ensure all fleet vehicles are properly licensed, insured, and compliant with traffic and safety regulations. Manage renewals for vehicle registration, insurance, inspection, and other regulatory requirements
Building Maintenance: Ensures the NTB office premises is kept secure. Performs regular building maintenance checks. Ensures building repairs are carried out properly, by official suppliers. Prepares and submits building maintenance reports, including records of maintenance and expenses monthly. Contact person for building maintenance
Ensures the refuse bin removal and the cleanliness of the courtyard
General Duties: Ensures punctuality. Observes the road and traffic laws and regulations. Ensures that safe driving practices are adhered toto. Not consuming or having alcohol present whilst on duty. Collects and returns guests or staff members to and from the airport and/or their accommodation as required. Collects and delivers documentation and/or other goods as required, including:
- General messenger duties (e.g. banking, postage, invitations, municipal bills)
- Assisting in Trade Fair set up for events, including the movement of equipment where so required and appropriately approved.
- Keeps proper records for recording entries for deliveries and collections of documents
Administration: Liaises with the Head of Departments on vehicle and transport matters. Maintains a schedule for license fees payable. Ensures annual vehicles registrations and license fees are paid when due. Assists with the purchase of new vehicles as required. Attends meetings and trainings as required. Attends to other delegated duties as required. Collates information from vehicle users and forwards to HR Manager for further checking.
Key Qualifications and Experience Required:
Key Qualifications:
Grade 10 (NQF level 3) Secondary education certificate; additional vocational training is an advantage.
Valid professional driver’s license (e.g., Class B, C, or D depending on vehicle type).
Key Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of professional driving experience, preferably in a public sector or SOE setting.
Essential Requirements
- Safe, defensive driving habits and knowledge of road safety regulations
- Basic handyman skills (e.g., using tools, simple repairs)
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- High integrity, punctuality, and professionalism
- Ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision.
