JOB SCOPE

The primary purpose of the Tourism Officer is to actively promote Namibia as a premier tourism destination by providing accurate, professional, and engaging tourism information to arriving visitors, guests, and stakeholders. This role supports the Namibia Tourism Board’s mission to enhance visitor experiences, foster positive perceptions of Namibia, and strengthen the country’s tourism image. Through effective promotion and information dissemination, the Tourism Officer contributes to increasing tourism growth and ensuring visitors have memorable experiences in Namibia.

Main responsibilities & performance areas

Provide Tourism Information to Visitors and Guests: Deliver professional tourism information in person, by phone, or email, ensuring accurate and timely responses to inquiries. Maintain and update promotional materials daily, ensuring visibility of Namibia’s Unique phlora. Record, analyze, and report visitor statistics and inquiry data weekly to support operational and marketing insights. Research and tailor responses to specific visitor inquiries, ensuring personalized and relevant information. Handle and follow up on complaints by referring them to appropriate tourism authorities, ensuring customer satisfaction. Support promotional activities and events by assisting with logistics for trade visits, fairs, and conferences, and attending as required.

Customer Service and Visitor Support: Greet and assist visitors, ensuring their comfort and guiding them to relevant staff or offices. Manage inquiries and bookings, including appointments, documentation, and general information requests. Handle communication, including answering calls, taking messages, and managing correspondence via email. Maintain a welcoming reception area, ensuring it is neat, stocked, and presentable always. Support administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, scanning, and record keeping.

Ad Hoc Administrative Support:  Assist colleagues with various administrative tasks as needed, ensuring smooth office/booth operations. Sort and distribute promotional and tourism materials efficiently to relevant stakeholders. Deliver professional and courteous service in all interactions, maintaining a positive work environment. Responsible for managing the survey booth and ensuring maximum participation from travellers. Perform ad hoc duties and support special assignments or projects promptly.

Key Qualifications and Experience Required:

A Diploma (NQF Level 5) in Marketing or Tourism. Excellent knowledge of the Namibian tourism industry and knowledge of the tourism product in the region.

Key Experience:

Minimum of 3 year in a tourism, customer service, or related role

Computer literacy
